As a Marine for 6 years and as a member of the Marine Corps League, it is my pleasure to have the toy drive at the Tree Farm. The Marine Corps League is a fantastic veteran's organization dedicated to helping past and present Marines, their families, and the general public through charity work.

Last year we were able to help over 600 children in the local area. The cash donations we collected were instrumental in allowing our partner organization, Toys for Joy, to give new gloves and hats to all the kids as well. This is an outstanding way to help needy kids in our local area by supplying not only toys but basic winter clothing as well.

The Toys For Tots drive was started in 1947 when Marine Corps Reserve Major Bill Hendricks and a group of Marine Reservists collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The Toys For Tots campaign has grown since then to become a nationally recognized holiday charity drive for needy children.

The Lincoln Land Leathernecks detachment 1174 of the Marine Corps League will be collecting toys at Daniken Tree Farm all season long. The toys will be distributed locally to needy children in partnership with Toys For Joy, another local toy drive.

I urge you to bring a new toy, still in the package, to the farm when you come for your Christmas Tree. There are hundreds of children in our area whose Christmas will be so much brighter with a little help from you. Donations are also gladly accepted. Thank you for your help in spreading the joy of Christmas.
